Travel/Health Insurance

Reading The Policy

Going Abroad For a Second Opinion

Going Abroad For a Second Opinion

This might sound boring but you should read the policy and ask your advisor questions.  The last thing you want is to have a non-covered condition.

Key Things to Look for in a Travel Health Insurance Policy

  1. Coverage Limits
Check how much the plan pays for medical care—per incident and in total.

  2. Emergency Evacuation & Repatriation
Check if there is coverage for air ambulance, medical repatriation, or return of remains, if needed.

  3. Pre-Existing Conditions
Many policies exclude these unless they've been stable for a certain period—typically 90 to 180 days.
A condition is considered stable if there’s been no change in medication, treatment, or symptoms during that time.

  4. Trip Duration & Country Coverage
Make sure you're covered for your entire trip and in all planned destinations.

  5. Deductibles & Co-Pays
Understand how much you pay out of pocket before the policy kicks in.

  6. Provider Access & Claims
Look for direct billing options and 24/7 emergency support. Know the process for filing claims.
